What We Focus On…That’s What We’ll Become!

Wherever We Put Our Energies And Our Attention, Those Things Will Develop

One day, sitting on a sidewalk, I felt great pressure on my chest observing the liquor bottle I was holding; I had an internal dialogue.

How can it be possible that knowing the damage you have caused me…I still accept you in my life? Is it your taste or the chemical reaction that is unleashed in my body?

That reaction felt like walking in “soap-heeled shoes.”

So many blows and misfortunes you have brought me. And here we are, “like in a romance,” just you and me.

You defeated all the competition. Disappeared everything that stood in the way. My family, my job, and even changed the way I am because I just realized that I haven’t bathed in a long time.

And all to keep me in that ecstasy of intoxication. Hypnotized by your reaction. Numb to the blows and emotions of reality. And I observed how just inches from where I was sitting, life went on, and people passed by ignoring my presence.

So, from inside my creative mindset…or what was left of it.

I started to defragment my life from my current situation backward. Not only to discover the root of my current problems but to find the solution.

I realized that as human beings…“What we focus on, that’s what we become.”

We are not computers programmed to run the software. We are human beings with free will to choose what suits us. But instead, we take what satisfies us the most, even if it causes our destruction through abuse.

If it makes us feel good…we’ll do it again, to feel the reaction of the chemical “dopamine,” and truly, that is the chain that makes us develop the bad habits that enslave us.

Since my youth, I focused a lot on having fun, and that led me to the stony roads of alcoholism. They did the perfect chemistry of self-destruction.

Now that I dug up the root. “It was my turn to prune the contaminated branches.”

From there, I began to focus all my willpower and what little intelligence I had left to develop the habits that would help me get out of the hole where I buried myself.

I kept away from people and places that I used to frequent to avoid the triggers of alcohol. And to calm impatience and despair, I filled in those gaps with new activities and healthy people.

“I began to visualize my future until I made it come true.”

What I focused on…That’s what I became.

The power of the mind is extraordinary. If we focus our energy and attention on what we want to accomplish, we’re able to do it.

“A light placed in the center of a room illuminates the entire space. The same light focused with a magnifying glass is capable of settings things on fire. Even more, that light converted with an amplifying device can be turned into a laser beam capable of cutting steel.”

We can use our minds in the same way. Use the power of your thoughts. Amplified them with your habits, and you can turn your focus into a laser creative beam.

If we want to succeed in life, we must focus all our attention on doing it. Thinking like a champion, living like one, and acting like we already are.

You’ll be surprised that when you focus your attention and energy on something, you’ll be able to do it. “Your thoughts are the steering wheel that directs the course of your life.”

Note that when we drive, we keep our gaze ahead. But the moment you look sideways, you unconsciously steer the wheel in that direction. The same happens with our minds because they are the steering wheel of our lives. Wherever we allow our thoughts to take us, that’s where we will go. “Life is a journey, and we are the drivers of our destiny.”

If we want to live a productive life that satisfies us. Or a mediocre, sitting drunk on a sidewalk…

How we want to live… “is up to us.”
